Descriptions
Arcs and Sparks
Discover the fascinating world of electricity and charged particles. Make hair raising and gravity defying discoveries as you learn about electromagnetic forces and the difference between static and current electricity. It’s electrifying!
Comets – Snowballs from Space
What is that mysterious glow in the sky? It wasn’t there last month? Where did it come from? Discover how comets tell the story of our universe as we build our very own comet before your eyes. Come join us, and touch a piece of space.
Cryogenics – The Ultimate Cool
Do you think Alberta’s cold? This demo is way cooler! Come explore the science of cold as we discover what happens to the three states of matter when we rapidly freeze them to –196° C. As a special treat come sample our very own “Super-cooled Ice Cream”.
Fire and Fury
Fire is both an enemy and a friend to man; it can destroy all our belongings but at the same time feed us and keep us warm. Fire really is just a chemical reaction. Come and learn what three things are necessary to produce a fire and use scientific principles to explain some rather amazing phenomena!
Let’s Have a Gas
What makes earth unique is our gaseous atmosphere. Take a deep breath. Gases are all around you and are essential to life. Examine the common properties of gases using chemicals and fire. You will get a BANG out of this demonstration.
Putting the Squeeze on Science
The weatherperson says there is a high pressure system coming in. What does that mean?
Pressure is a common phenomenon in this world. This demonstration looks at various aspects of pressure, what it is and how it effects the weather. We will even create our own cloud in a bottle!
Super Duper Chemistry
Chemistry is everywhere! It is used every time you cook, every time you start a car and even when you eat and digest food. Come and unravel some of the mysteries of chemistry during this fun filled demonstration.
What Puts the Fizz into Soda Pop?
Everyone loves pop! Don’t they? But what makes it so special. For the younger crowds (or the young at heart), we will make our own soda pop recipe. Come and discover the secret ingredient that adds the fizz to our pop. Participation is encouraged and all will be able to taste the results.
3-2-1 Blast Off
This demonstration is an explosive, outdoor demonstration that looks at combustion and the use of combustion to propel vehicles. Come discover rocketry and hear stories about the men, women and technology that help launch us into space.
