The Greens’ House in the EPCOR Environment Gallery

What is the greenhouse effect? How will global warming affect us? What is hydroponics? By exploring The Greens’ Greenhouse, these and many more questions will be answered. Mrs. Green’s Workshop – presented by Shell Canada Limited - features both renewable and non-renewable alternative energy resources. Explore energy sources like wind and solar power.
Mr. Green’s Weather Garage is the place to become an amateur meteorologist and explore hands-on interactive exhibits dealing with weather. How lightning is formed, what makes a tornado, and how clouds are formed, are just a few of the questions that will be answered.

New to Mr. Green’s Weather Garage is The Magic Planet! On The Magic Planet, a 16” diameter animated globe, you can view real-time cloud cover and seismic activity which is updated every 3 hours, showing what is happening on Earth RIGHT NOW! The Magic Planet is also equipped with datasets showing geological formations and events, climate and oceanographic data, images of the Solar System and more!

The Body Fantastic in the Allard Family Gallery

“My Body–How It Works” begins with the senses, the cardiovascular system, the digestive system, the musculoskeletal system. See how each area is important to the daily functioning of this marvellous machine we call our bodies. “My Body–Who is in Charge Around Here?” introduces the brain as a complex set of neurons and synapses that command our body to do the things it does. Come to the “House of Illusion” to learn more about the nervous system. “My Body–Gross Delights” has anything and everything slimy, sticky, noisy or smelly that is produced by or lives in the body is showcased in The Gallery of the Gross. See for yourself and look if you dare!

Space Place in the TransCanada PipeLines Gallery

Come and explore the world of space through the eyes of the researchers of Space Place. Four areas have been set up for you to explore. Start with “Team 9” and take a closer look at the planets that make up our Solar System. “The Ark Yard” is a self-sufficient environment to take man to other parts of the Solar System. In “Collision Control”, we scan the skies for objects that may someday pose a threat to our planet and earthly existence. Come and explore the research of “Team Goldilocks” and try to understand what conditions are needed for life as we know it to exist.

Discoveryland in the Discovery Gallery

Discoveryland, specifically developed for young children, provides an environment for children to learn science concepts through interactive play. WaterWorks is an interactive area where children can discover the properties of water in a wave tank or play a bubble basketball game. Explore hands-on science activities including matching, sequencing, magnetism, and light with the Discovery Boxes. A transparent eight-foot clock allows children to turn the handle and watch the gears work, and our giant piano you play with your feet - as children have fun exploring the science of sound. Children can also build structures with large foam blocks and examine objects through a giant microscope.

Mystery Avenue in the Hole Family Gallery

The Crime Scene is the Magnolia Tree Apartments and your students will take on the role of detective to determine “whodunit.” Then it’s off to the Crime Lab, which houses 35 interactive stations where you can analyze the data that has been collected and take a closer look at forensic science. Finally, it’s time to test the conclusions at the Police Station and see if the evidence collected and assigned to an individual will hold up in court.

Science FUNdamentals

Science FUNdamentals are highly interactive, hands-on, table-top exhibits exploring important fundamental scientific principles behind Sound, Magnetism, Optics, Mathematics, Structures, and Electricity, in a fun and interesting approach. The exhibits can be found throughout the building.
Note: Not all exhibits are guaranteed to be on the floor at all times, when making a booking ask for a list of the current exhibits available.
Electricity has become an essential part of nearly everything we do. Through spectacular hands-on activities students will learn what we do with electrons, how we use it, and discover some of the basic principles of electricity, from static electricity to currents and circuits.

Magnetism
Magnetic forces are not well understood by most students. This set of exhibits is designed to unravel the fundamental forces that make magnets work, and display a number of applications of magnetic force in our everyday lives.

Mathematics
The fundamental nature of mathematics in science and engineering cannot be ignored. This exhibit is designed to provide students with a fun and educational way to investigate math and to learn about the relationship of math to the fundamentals of science.

Optics
The behaviour of light in optical systems is fascinating for students. They will have ample opportunity to conduct their own experiments on light benches, and can investigate how light behaves under a variety of conditions.

Sound
Students will be able to experience sound as never before. Students can discover the speed of sound, collect ambient sounds from the environment and amplify them, learn about sound waves, and modify sounds electronically.

Structures
The engineering of structures is a favourite activity in childhood play. The application of this intuitive knowledge to real-world buildings and bridges takes a little more analysis and experimentation to turn it into a science. This exhibit will provide students with hands-on opportunities to do just that.
