TELUS World of Science - Edmonton will be abuzz August 6 when it hosts the world premiere of THE WILDEST DREAM: Conquest of Everest. TELUS World of Science - Edmonton, or TWoSE as it is affectionately dubbed, is the only Canadian location granted the honour of premiering this National Geographic film.
TWoSE’s premiere celebrations include various “Win to Get In” contests happening around Edmonton, prizes and live demonstrations. Vertically Inclined and Mountain Equipment Co-op will also join in the festivities on location demonstrating various tools, equipment, methods and apparel Mallory and Anker used as compared to other climbers today. Other exciting climbing activities add to an already spectacular event that cannot be missed!
Sponsored by Beck Commercial Inc., THE WILDEST DREAM: Conquest of Everest uses the giant screen to depict the last days of adventurer and Mount Everest climber George Mallory – the man believed to be the first to scale the world’s most challenging peak. After vanishing 800 feet from Mount Everest’s summit in 1924, Mallory’s body was missing until present-day climber Conrad Anker discovered it, frozen and intact, 75 years later. Conrad Anker recreates the ascent of George Mallory to the top of Mount Everest using 1924 equipment in efforts to solve the 75-year old mystery.
Directed by well-known documentary filmmaker Anthony Geffen and executive produced by Hollywood veteran Mike Medavoy, THE WILDEST DREAM: Conquest of Everest is narrated by esteemed actor Liam Neeson, accompanied by his late wife, Natasha Richardson as the voice of Mallory’s wife Ruth, and Ralph Fiennes as Mallory. Never-before-seen archival footage combine with the breathtaking imagery of present-day Everest on the world’s largest screen to portray an adventure — shrouded in mystery — that spans generations.
